ELON, NC- Journalist Bob Woodward spoke to the Elon University community last Thursday with the notion to make sure the candidate you cast a ballot for, is the right one.
The infamous Pulitzer Prize winner and dedicated reporter for the Washington post was glorified for his astonishing work when uncovering the Watergate Scandal of the early 1970s. As well as familiarizing himself in the world of journalism. One of Woodward’s key points in his address to Elon stressed the importance that neither candidate can be trusted, which makes this particular election, unlike any other, one for the ages. “Being President has to do with being outside of yourself,” said Woodward. “Both (Trump and Clinton) are two unknowns through their track records.” Woodward reiterated that especially in this election, one must be mindful of the adversaries and consequences for electing either Trump or Clinton. Both candidates have a “shaky” resume of untrustworthiness and skepticism, in terms of both political presence and non-political presence. “We will continue to repeat and find the necessary truth,” said Woodward. “Not only as a reporter, but understanding the mistakes and when something really is wrong.” Woodward referenced the untruthfulness of President Nixon in the Watergate Scandal, and how shocked the American people of the United States really were at the time. To bring down the most powerful man in the country, for one solemn lie that was revealed. Woodward ended his address with a simple yet important message, that whoever reigns in the 2016 Presidency will have a lot of work to do. However, when casting your ballot, be mindful of who you are really electing to rule your country.

A collaborative prediction of what is expected to take place at the first presidential debate of 2016 details both candidate’s strengths and weaknesses. Written by Patrick Healey, Amy Chozik, and Maggie Herbman, their journalistic factoid published in The New York Times just three days before the debate is a descriptive, dedicated piece justifying this year’s presidential race between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton. Titled, Debate Prep? Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump Differ on That, Too, all three authors are held responsible for the information provided. The structure of this piece is quite informative and well presented. There are detailed facts about both candidates, as well as a prediction of what each candidate will speak about and what responses they will have for one another. What makes this article unique and unlike any other published work about this year’s upcoming Presidential Debate, is the segmented descriptions of each candidate's strengths, weaknesses, strategies, preparations, and vulnerabilities. Healey claims that some of Trump’s weaknesses are lashing back and criticizing Clinton for what she will say. However, Healey recognizes Trump’s professional skills such as a successful businessman, and that his domestic economic policies are far greater and could benefit the American people more than Clinton’s. This article has several different sources, coming from a wide variety of different backgrounds with several different opinions. Under each category, strategies for example, Trump and Clinton’s tactics are dissected and explained in thorough detail. This not only provides valuable insight for the reader but also political background knowledge for someone who isn’t as familiar to the politics of this campaign. What is similar between this article and some of my prior work is the factual evidence and details about each candidate. This legitimizes the strength and actuality of the story to a level of efficient comprehension for all readers, both politically-smart and not politically-correct. The in depth details remind me of a prior assignment I published about a statistical work of Elon’s baseball program. Through the various personnel I interviewed as well as factual research on the projections of the team’s success for the upcoming season, the facts and stats helped structure and mold my story to become believable and understandable. |
